Visa Processing

At McDonald International Academy, we welcome international students from around the world to join our vibrant and inclusive learning community in Toronto. To help families prepare for a smooth transition, we’ve outlined the key steps and information you’ll need to begin the Canadian study visa process for your child.

Receive the Letter of Acceptance (LOA)

Once your child has been accepted into our program, we will issue an official Letter of Acceptance (LOA). This document is required to apply for a Canadian Study Permit.

Note: Only Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) can issue an LOA for visa purposes. McDonald International Academy is a recognized DLI.

Apply for a Canadian Study Permit

A Study Permit is required for any international student studying in Canada for more than six months. You can apply for the permit through the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.

Required Documents Typically Include:

  • Letter of Acceptance from our school
  • Valid passport
  • Proof of financial support (tuition, living expenses, return travel)
  • Recent passport-sized photos
  • Custodianship documents (if the student is a minor)
  • Statement of purpose or explanation letter

Processing times vary by country. We recommend starting the process as soon as you receive the LOA.

Custodianship for Minors

If your child is under the age of 18, a Custodianship Declaration must be submitted. This includes:

  • A notarized declaration signed by the parent or legal guardian in your home country.
  • A notarized declaration from the Canadian custodian who will be responsible for your child in Canada.

We can assist with guidance on selecting a custodian if needed.

Prepare for Arrival in Canada

Once the Study Permit is approved, your child will receive a Port of Entry (POE) Letter of Introduction. Bring this letter and all supporting documents when entering Canada.

We recommend:

  • Booking flights well in advance.
  • Preparing health insurance coverage.
  • Arranging accommodation (homestay, guardian, or private housing).
  • Notifying our admissions office of your arrival plans.

Support from Our Team

We understand this process can feel overwhelming. Our Admissions and International Support Team is here to help every step of the way. From application to arrival, we’re committed to making your family’s transition to studying in Canada as smooth as possible.
